Review of Maxtor 1TB Basic Desktop External Harddisk
Filed Under (Blogging, Reviews) by James on 07-09-2008
My internal hard disk is getting low on space because of the huge photos files I have got.
You know what, I have got about 200 GB of photos in my hard disk! Most photos were taken during overseas trips.
So to prevent data loss, I decided to go to my local computer shop to check out the latest hard disk.
For me, I always look for the best deal and I found the Maxtor 1TB Basic Desktop External Harddisk suits my budget very well. It only cost $199 after $100 discount.
Features of Maxtor 1TB Basic Desktop External Harddisk:
1 Tetrabyte of storage capacity
USB 2.0
3 Years warranty
It measures 203 mm x 127 mm x 44.5 mm
Compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Mac OS X 10.4.8
My review of Maxtor 1TB Basic Desktop External Harddisk:
It is quite heavy for an external hard disk. I think it is due to the fact that it is 1 TB and more magnetic discs are needed to store the huge data.
As with other electronic devices, it gets hot so you need to ventilate it to prolong the life. I will put it in a vertical position to let the heat distribute more evenly.
Installation is very straightforward. You just connect the hard disk to your computer with a USB cable and power it with a power adaptor.
It does not comes with any backup software like others.
With 1 TB of storage, I can store 200 DVD movies and 625000 photos.
As I have 2 computers at home, I can always use the hard disk as a backup storage.
Tips: I partitioned the hard disk to 2 drives. So if one drive fails, the other will still work.
Verdict: The Maxtor 1TB Basic Desktop External Harddisk is defintely good value for money for only $199 and with 1 TB of storage space.
